Papaver Nudicaule- Iceland Poppy wildflowers are a wonderful source of exceptionally beautiful colors. The Poppy flowers nearly glisten in the sun, and their petals look like crinkled silk. E Iceland Poppy seeds are easy to grow and the blooms come in an array of colors. Measuring 4 - 5 inches across, these single Poppy blooms open in shades of white, yellow, orange, pink, rose, and red as well as bi-colors! Iceland Poppies put on a fabulous wildflower garden show, and they are among the best for cutting, due to their durable stems and erect flower position.

These Iceland Poppies bloom in a full range of bright colors on top of leafless stems. The soft, slender stems of these easy to grow flowers are free flowering. This heat tolerant variety is especially attractive when planted using scattering method. The Iceland Poppy is a hardy, but short-lived perennial, grown as a biennial in Coastal gardens. Either way, they self sow readily, so will last for years at a time. The large, cup shaped blooms have a texture like crepe paper and appear in a range of subdued pastel colours - apricot, gold, tangerine, and white.

Sow Iceland Poppy seeds in early spring or late fall where they are to grow permanently. The flower stalks grow to around 30c (12")  or more  and are among the longest-lasting poppies as cut flowers. They are highly attractive to honeybees and bumblebees, with seeds that are easy to collect and disperse. Unlike the California Poppy, this variety usually remains where it was planted. All parts of the plant are mildly toxic, but acrid enough that animals will not eat them.

Iceland Poppies are used extensively in the southeast by sowing the wildflower seeds in the fall to create a lavish spring display, but the plants are unable to live through the hot summer that follows. In cooler climates, Iceland Poppy plants perform like a perennial for 2 - 3 years. Iceland Poppies prefer full sun and a fertile, well-drained soil. Early flowers during cool weather will be the largest.
