100+ Rocket Larkspur Flower Seeds- -DELPHINIUM CONSOLIDA-Rocket Larkspur-B658-Purple Larkspur
The English have referred to delphiniums as larkspurs since before the 16th century, but you can use the two aforementioned common names interchangeably. Breeders bred and selected varieties of branching larkspurs (Delphinium consolida) in the early 20th century and created the “Giant Imperial” strain of larkspurs (Consolida ambigua “Giant Imperial”), which have other botanical names associated with them, including Consolida ajacis and Consolida orientalis.
It sounds confusing, but you only have to remember that if you see “Giant Imperial” on your package of larkspur seeds, you have some easy-to-grow annuals that reach about 4 feet tall, and explode with red, white, yellow or blue flowers in late spring or early summer when planted in winter.
Larkspur Delphinium Consolida are lovely against a fence or wall with their tall flower spikes. Larkspurs make a wonderful cut flower. Cut when 1/3 of the delicate flowers on the spike are opened. Their vase life is 6 - 8 days, and they dry nicely for dried arrangements as well. To aid in the germination of Larkspur seeds, place the flower seeds on a damp paper towel, seal the towel and seeds in a ziploc bag and place in the refrigerator for 1 - 2 weeks. After removing the flower seeds from the refrigerator, directly sow the Larkspur seeds outdoors in prepared soil, keeping the seeds moist until germination. Larkspur flower seeds can also be sown indoors. Transplanting Larkspur seedlings outside can take place after 8 weeks of growth. After blooms are spent, cut back hard to encourage a second bloom later in the season.
The flower seeds and Larkspur plants are poisonous so do not consume.
