Gaillardias are very versatile wild flowers as they can be used to create naturalized meadows, to attract wildlife and pollinators to the garden, to cut and bring indoors for arrangements, and to brighten any ornamental landscape. This Blanket flower has big, long-lasting blooms which grow up to 4 inches across. The bi-colored flowers include orange, red, and yellow, and they bloom from early summer to fall if spent blooms are deadheaded.

Gaillardia Pulchelia also known as Blanket Flower, Indian Blanket and Firewheel is a Perennial wildflower with large, daisy-like blooms and a tap root making it drought tolerant and carefree. It is well-suited to xeriscaping. Gaillarida pulchella. This annual North American wildflower has a cone center, a bit like Echinacea, but surrounded by sunset red petals tipped in gold.

Blanket flowers can be directly seeded into your wild flower garden, or seeded indoors for transplanting later. If you live in a warmer climate, you can plant them in the fall, and they will likely bloom the first spring. For colder areas, expect a bloom in the second spring.
