Description:

Gallardia Sundance looks especially good when planted in mass in full sun. The Red Blanket Flower is a dazzling burst of red for your garden that's easily grown from seeds! This Blanket Flower grows 10 inches tall. Deep red, fluffy flowers emerge in the heat of the summer and stand well above the simple foliage. Red Blanket flowers are attractive to butterflies and command attention in the landscape. Flowers measure about 2 inches across when in full bloom. There are more than two dozen species of Gaillardia, and most of these are native to North America including Gaillardia pulchella. Deadheading will prolong flowering.

Gaillardia Sundance likes hot, sunny areas. It also needs good drainage as soggy soil will cause root rot in winter. This Gaillardia Blanket Flower is a drought tolerant flower.

Growing : If sowing Gaillardia seeds indoors, start 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost, use sterile starting soil and starter trays. Press the flower seeds into the soil and barely cover. Keeps seeds moist until germination. Cut back the Blanket Flower seedlings at transplanting to help it become more compact. If sowing Blanket Flower seeds outdoors, wait until danger of frost has passed. Sow flower seeds into prepared soil, cover lightly with fine garden or potting soil. Or, broadcast spread them over an area, and lightly rake the Gaillardia seed into the soil. Keep moist until germination.
