Catananche caerulea, otherwise known as Cupid's Dart or Love Plant is a charming plant. It was historically used in love potions, hence the name, and still symbolizes love in the language of flowers. An ancient ingredient in Greek love potions, Cupid’s Dart now finds itself most often a pleasing flower of well-drained soils in sunny climes that know little of humidity. Late winter sowings often yield flowers that summer. A good cut fresh or dried. 'Amor White' produces stunning blooms of white, star like flowers each with a dark purple-blue eye and unique papery petals. The blooms rise on single stems above neat clumps of grey-green foliage, the strong stems hold up to wind and rain.
This beautiful fast-growing perennial is very easy to grow and is often used as an annual. Growing Cupid's Dart Seeds: To do an early planting, sow Catananche Caerulea seeds indoors using moist seed compost and starter trays. Sow the Cupid's Dart flower seeds on the surface and lightly cover the flower seeds with moistened soil. Keep the flower seeds moist until germination. When seedlings are large enough to handle transplant them into 3 inch pots. Keep them in a light place but not in direct sun. Gradually harden Cupid's Dart plants to outside conditions for 10 - 15 days before planting them in their permanent place after frost season has passed. Cupid's Dart performs best with regular deadheading to encourage continuous blooms. Good drainage is essential in winter as roots are susceptible to rot in soggy soils. Fertilizing is not necessary. Cupid's Dart plants will gently re-seed.
