Description:
Celosia Plumosa is also known as Woolflower, Plumed Cockscomb, Feathered Amaranth or Plume Plant which is descriptive of the erect, plume-like spike of flowers that give a tremendous display of color both in the garden and in the vase. Plume Plants are often used in large-scale plantings in public areas because they require so little attention yet give such a lovely display. Celosia flowers appear in summer and last through autumn, but they are frost tender. The feathery, flame-like floral heads of plumed cockscomb dazzle the garden and dried floral arrangements with bright, long-lasting color. Deep golden central plume, Bright colours, excellent vase life. Height 0.7-1m. Plants have bright golden plumes that remain colorful all season, not "browning" with maturity. It is an annual useful in formal or informal gardens, and has proved to be heat, humidity and rain tolerant. Plume Plant seeds are very tiny.
For areas with a long growing season, Celosia flower seed can be directly sown into your flower garden in prepared soil after frost season has passed. For cooler areas with shorter growing seasons, start the Celosia seeds 4- 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the Feathered Amaranth seeds into the soil but do not cover them. The flower seeds need to stay moist, and require warm soil to germinate. Pinch back the early blooms to encourage more branching.
This celosia is one of the best annuals for season-long performance.
