Description:
Pink Ponderosa Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) is a field, raspberry variety with rigid stems, whose fruit ripen circa 75 - 85 days after transplanting seedlings to the permanent site. This is the only dwarf raspberry tomato cultivar currently available on the market. As a variety developing rigid stems it can be grown without supports, although since "Maliniak" is a very productive variety, staking is advised to avoid the plants from falling over under the weight of fruit. This variety produces relatively large berries that weigh 80 - 100 g. Round, slightly flattened and rippled fruit do not develop greenback. Ripen tomatoes take on a wonderful, raspberry-red colour, while the flesh is vividly red, contains plenty of juice and has an excellent taste. These tomatoes are eaten mostly direct after the harvest, as a fresh addition to salads and sandwiches. Tomato is a thermophilic plant and may be grown in the field only in frost-free periods. Cultivation from seedlings produced in a heated room brings best results. Sow tomato seeds early in spring to pots or seeding trays. Transplant the seedlings to the field no earlier than in the second half of May. You will achieve best crops by growing "Maliniak" tomato in sandy-clay, permeable, moderately moist soils that are rich in nutrients. The fruit will grow larger and more aromatic on sunny and warm sites.
