The plants grows up to 30 centimetres in height and can be grown in pots, planters or in various flower containers. Tiger Monkey Flower is an excellent addition to rock gardens; it is in flower from July to September. Growing: sow the seeds in a hotbed or in pallet planters from March to April. Do not cover the seeds with soil; it is best to press them into the soil using a small board. The seeds germinate in around two weeks. The plants prefer fertile light humus soils. Keep the soil moist and grow the plants in semi-shaded positions; the more moist the soil is, the more the plants prefer sunny positions. Product Description: Mimulus luteus Tigrinus grandiflorus Tiger Monkey Flower Mix is a very useful plant for front of borders, baskets and other containers. The flowers are mostly yellow and red, but occasionally orange or cream. Although strictly speaking a perennial, best treated as an annual. For best results, ensure that the plants receive adequate water supplies, and cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush. Mimulus will happily self-seed, so if you don’t weed too enthusiastically, you can pot up or reposition seedlings at pretty much any time of year for flowering the next season. An easy to grow colourful addition that is well suited for shady areas. This native wildflower makes itself equally useful as an ornamental garden plant and as an addition to wetland or bog plantings. The genus name comes from the Greek words for “mimic” and “ape,” because of the resemblance of the blossoms to the face of a clown-like monkey. The species name “tigrinus” means “striped like a tiger,” referring to the uniquely marked blossoms. Sowing instruction. Sowing Instructions: Very small seeds, handle with care. Mix a little with sharp sand so can spread evenly when sowing! Sow indoors: Feb-to-May in EU and Oct-to-Nov in PK. Sow seed on the surface 0.1 cm (1mm) of lightly firmed and finely sieved in a propagator on a windowsill or in a greenhouse or in a polythene bag, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Do not exclude light as this helps in germination or allow to dry out but shade from direct sunlight. Keep at a temperature of between 18-20°C (64-68°F). Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination usually takes 14-30 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 23-30cm (9-12in) apart. Grow in cool conditions but not cold. Once the plants are ready, move them to a partial or full shaded area approximately 30cm (11″) apart after the danger of frost has passed. Once the outside temperatures reach 32°C, move all the pots into shaded area. This will prolong the flowering period. At the end of the flowering season, allow seed pods to dry on plant; break open to collect seeds. Properly cleaned, seed can be successfully stored and replanted next year. However, the flower shades will be slightly different.
