Developed in 1926, Heirloom California Giant Zinnias produce stems as tall as 4 feet with huge 5" blooms, making this variety ideal for cut flowers! The shape of the flower is a bit more open than the Dahlia Flowered variety, with petals rounded on the end. Easy to grow, Zinnias look wonderful when planted "en masse". Plant Zinnia California Giant flower seeds in full sun, in beds and borders for a bright and colorful garden. And then, the more you cut, the more they bloom! The colorful blooms of the California Giant Zinnias make wonderful cut flowers. The flat-petaled semi-double flowers are displayed on long, graceful stems. Plants are easy to grow and bloom midsummer through fall. An excellent backdrop for other annuals in flower beds and borders. Special Directions For Short Season Climates

SOWING: Sow outdoors after weather has warmed considerably or start seeds indoors for earlier blooms. Cover seeds with 1/8 inch fine soil. Sow indoors in flats, individual pots or peat pots.

THINNING, TRANSPLANTING AND SPACING: When plants are 2 to 3 inches in height thin or transplant 10 to 12 inches apart. Transplant indoor started seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and weather has warmed considerably. GERMINATION: Approximately one week at 70 F (21 C) temperatures. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Special Advice Zinnias thrive in hot summer weather. Plant in a sunny area with well drained rich, fertile soil. Water deeply by soaking soil and avoid spraying foliage. Pinch plants when young for denser foliage. Help ensure continual blooming by harvesting cut flowers and removing spent flowers.
